■学生の進路指導を細かくサポート
卒業後の進路について、キャリア・センターという専門組織が細かく手助けをしている。
カリフォルニア大学バークレー校では、１５名の専門家が働いている。
障害を持つ学生へのサービスも、ＤＳＰの専門家と協力して、木目細やかな対応をしている。
その仕事内容とは、以下があげられる。
・ インターンシップ （企業研修）
・ キャンパスでの就職支援
・ 求人リスト紹介、情報センター （下記写真）
・ キャリア カウンセリング （経歴形成や卒業後の進路相談） 、キャリア形成マニュアル
・ 大学院、法律学校などの進路相談
・ 最新情報のメーリングリスト
・ 個別相談
・ 履歴書作成講座、履歴書添削、面接の受け方、マナー指導、手紙の書き方
・ ワークショップ、シンポジウム
・ 障害を持つ学生へのサービス
キャリア・センターには、各企業、行政、ＮＰＯなどが公募しているインターンシップの情報が
データベースとして蓄積されており、情報が引き出せるようになっている。
もちろんセンターに来ての検索も可能だし、外からインターネットを使ってアクセスも可能である。
また、就職活動支援だけでなく、大学院進学相談にも乗っている。
聞くところによると、１０年前に学業進学相談部門と統合したのだそうだ。活動域は幅広い。
一番大きな仕事は、インターンシップの紹介だそうだ。
そして、頻繁にキャンパスでセミナーが開かれている。
会社の面接官が大学にきて面接の予行練習をすることもある。ビデオで撮影しカウンセリングする。
就職活動のイロハが書かれた冊子や、ビデオも用意されている。
キャリア・センターの専門家は、それぞれに専攻分野をもっており、適合する学部生の相談を受ける。
障害を持つ学生を担当する専門家も、もちろん１名いる。
障害を持つ学生の就職は簡単ではない。
同時に、また学生自身も快適な大学の環境から社会に出ること、働くことに不安を覚えている。
よって、アルバイトやボランティア、インターンシップの経験を勧めているとのこと。
そして、障害に関係なく、ケガをした人の就職相談、精神的不安定な人の相談にも乗る。
障害を持つ前に仕事をもっていた学生もいるので、そのスキルの証明をしたりする。
働くときの就業環境、権利についての相談も行い、就業率を高めることに邁進している。
インターンシップに関しては、大手企業をはじめ、障害を持つ学生にも門戸が広く開かれている。
毎夏、首都ワシントンＤＣでも連邦政府が多くの障害を持つ学生をインターンとして受け入れている。

ところで、私が卒業した神戸大学、発達科学部では、当時、就職活動への支援がまったくなかった。
関連資料や求人案内などは教務の小さな部屋の１コーナーだったと思う。
セミナーも１度だけ開かれただけだっと記憶する。
障害を持つ学生への支援も語る前に、根本的な学生サービスの質と量が違います。
そのサービスを障害を持つ学生にも同じように機会があるようにしているだけなのです。

who are majoring in the fields of :

- MANAGEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEMS
- MATH
- PHYSICAL SCIENCES
- BIOLOGICAL SCIENCES
- INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY
- BUSINESS FIELDS
The ENTRY POINT program is managed by the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), one of the largest professional
organizations of and for scientists, mathematicians, and engineers.
* ENTRY POINT serves as matchmaker (talent scout), linking students with employers.
* Paid summer internships for students with disabilities.
* Students with any type of disability may qualify.
* Qualifying students must:
- Be full-time undergraduate or graduate students
- Major in one of the fields listed above, or take courses leading to these majors
- Have B average GPA or higher
- Be a U.S. citizen or hold a right-to-work permit (F-1 visa)
* Offers are made directly by employers, through their regular internship programs.
(These are not "special" or "segregated" programs.)
* Internship sites across the U.S.
* Majority of internship opportunities exist at IBM, NASA, Texas Instruments, JP Morgan Chase, National Science Foundation
* Employers provide competitive pay, on-site mentors, accommodations and assistive technology as required.
* Some employers provide housing assistance for interns who relocate for the summer.
